Leaving the Alps

Monday May 8, 2017.
Leaving these beautiful and majestic Alps, we paid our respects to those who died or were captured here on the Soča Front. By visiting the Kobarid Museum the horrors of war came to life - from tombstones, gas masks and other implements of war to photographs and journal entries. We wondered if this front is where Tom's grandfather, as part of the WWI Italian ski patrol, was captured.

Tolmin Gorges is on our route to Ljubljana. At the confluence of two rivers, the Tolminka and the Zadlaščica, the canyon walls are steep and incredibly lush. One would think it the tropics with ivy entwining the trees and the moist, green, mossy walls; ah, but the air is cool and the water cold! Virtually the only ones here, we have a little suspension bridge fun! Do you see the bear's head wedged in the gorge?

A stop by the airport was necessary to fix the car's 6V charger - the power source for our GPS. A new fuse restored our sanity. Ljubljana here we come!
