Vis, Croatia

Saturday May 13-15, 2017
Vis is a dream island. Vineyards, olive groves on terraced hillsides, beaches of sand or pebbles, the smell of wild herbs everywhere, the warm sunshine, the chilly Adriatic, creative dishes with traditional ingredients, and a warm, genuine hospitality - I could go on and on. Hotel San Grigorio, in Vis Town, is a wonderful place to chill. But there is an island to explore!

The sandy cove of Stončica beach was paradise.......

and the the climb down to Stiniva's pebble beach rewarded us with an exhilaring swim (don't laugh at my wetsuit - at least I could enjoy it)!

From Komiža, a working fishing village, we took a small boat to Biševo to see the Blue Cave.

We explored the streets of Komiža before taking out SUPs at Islomania, in the cluster of homes called Milna. Sticking close to the coast, marvelling at the shades of blue and green, we found a secluded sandly cove to swim and relax.

Sunset at the top of Mt Hum (587ft), at the little stone church overlooking Komiža and the sea, was the perfect ending to our stay on Vis.

Our amazing dinners at the hotel's Boccadora Restaurant and the warm, thought-provoking conversations with host/owner Avē, will always be remembered.
